The Down Syndrome Association of Jacksonville’s annual Buddy Walk is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 10, at Seawalk Pavilion in Jacksonville Beach.

The event runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and is open to the public. Organizers say it will take place rain or shine. It is DSAJ’s largest fundraiser of the year, while also serving as a celebration of people with Down syndrome and an opportunity to promote inclusion during Down Syndrome Awareness Month.

People may register officially, which includes a T-shirt, or attend at no cost. Donations will also be accepted.

According to WOKV, DSAJ provides information, programs and family connections for people with Down syndrome from birth through adulthood. The Jacksonville organization also offers scholarships to some qualifying families.

Local parent Joy Parman told WOKV that DSAJ connected her family with resources and other families after her daughter Kennedy’s diagnosis. Kennedy, who was born early and spent 45 days in a neonatal intensive care unit, is turning 14.

More information about the Buddy Walk, donations and DSAJ family resources is available through DSAJ.
