A Disney World split stay—sleeping at one Disney Resorts Collection hotel, then moving to another—can be a smart way to pair a Skyliner-friendly resort with a Magic Kingdom-area finale, or simply try two very different hotels in one trip. The important planning detail: Disney treats the hotel portions as separate reservations, even when the dates touch. That matters most for dining and your move-day routine.

Lightning Lane timing: consecutive stays get one planning window

If both resort reservations are consecutive, linked to the same My Disney Experience account and include the same Guests, you can purchase Lightning Lane passes for the full continuous resort stay beginning seven days before check-in at the first resort, starting at 7 a.m. Eastern Time. The maximum advance-planning span is 14 days.

That is the split-stay bright spot: you do not need to wait for the second hotel’s check-in date to buy Lightning Lane Multi Pass, Single Pass or Premier Pass for park days later in the same uninterrupted trip. You will still make a separate purchase for each park day, and everyone must have valid admission linked to their account. Make sure your Disney World tickets, both hotel confirmations and every member of your travel party are properly connected before the seven-day mark.

If there is even one off-property night or another gap between the two Disney resort stays, expect two Lightning Lane eligibility windows instead: one seven days before the first check-in and another seven days before the second. Guests who join the group only for the second hotel stay also will not share the first stay’s early eligibility.

Dining reservations: plan for two 60-day dates

Dining works differently. A Disney Resort hotel Guest can reserve dining beginning 60 days before arrival for the length of that particular resort reservation, up to 10 nights. With a split stay, that means two distinct dining booking windows.

  • First resort: At 60 days before its check-in date, book meals from that arrival date through its checkout date.
  • Second resort: At 60 days before its own check-in date, book meals for the remainder of the trip.

In practical terms, do not assume a four-night stay at one resort followed by four nights at another gives you access to all eight days of dining at the first 60-day mark. Set two calendar reminders, ideally for 6 a.m. Eastern Time. If a hard-to-get restaurant falls during the second half, be ready when that second window opens—and keep checking afterward, since cancellations can reshuffle availability.

The same reservation-by-reservation approach generally applies to Enchanting Extras. Keep in mind that a dining reservation does not replace the valid park admission, and any required park reservation, needed to enter a theme park restaurant.

Check in twice—even if your bags do not

A split stay has two check-ins. Complete Online Check-In for both resort confirmations in the My Disney Experience app before your trip. On move day, your first room is still a checkout, while the second room is a fresh arrival with its own room-ready notification.

Disney’s standard room-ready time is 3 p.m. for Disney Resort hotels and 4 p.m. for Disney Deluxe Villas, though a room can be ready earlier or later. The app will send the new room number and arrival instructions when it is available. You can bypass the Front Desk with Direct-to-Room service, using the app or an active DisneyBand to open the door.

Do not schedule a midday break around guaranteed early access to the new room. Instead, treat move day as a park, pool or Disney Springs day. Before the second room is ready, eligible resort areas such as the pool may be accessible through the app or an active DisneyBand; ask the new resort if you have a question about a particular amenity.

How Disney-to-Disney luggage transfer works

When both stays are at Disney Resorts Collection hotels, Bell Services can transfer luggage between the two resorts at no charge. On the morning you leave the first hotel, bring packed bags to Bell Services—or ask about assistance from your room—and tell the Cast Member your destination resort. Keep the claim check.

The transfer takes several hours, so think of the bags as unavailable until late afternoon or evening rather than counting on them at the new hotel right at room-ready time. After your room is ready, retrieve bags from Bell Services or call for delivery and be in the room when they arrive. It is customary to tip for hands-on bell-service help.

Carry a small move-day bag with medication, valuables, park tickets, chargers, swimwear, a change of clothes and anything needed for dinner. A small packable day backpack is particularly useful when you want the freedom to head straight to a park after handing off luggage. Avoid leaving perishable groceries with transferred bags, and confirm any same-day bag cutoff time with Bell Services at your first resort.

Best split-stay rule: link both reservations early, calendar two dining mornings, use the first resort’s seven-day Lightning Lane window for a seamless stay, and pack as if your main suitcase will not reappear until the evening. Check current Disney details before you go, since resort procedures can change.
