You do not have to sleep at a Disney-owned hotel to get a useful head start at Walt Disney World. A number of nearby hotels participate in Early Theme Park Entry, which lets registered resort guests enter all four theme parks 30 minutes before the posted opening time, including on check-in and check-out days.
But there is one important planning distinction: Early Entry eligibility is much broader than the 7-day Lightning Lane purchase benefit. If lining up Lightning Lane Multi Pass, Single Pass or Premier Pass selections a full week ahead is a priority, only four non-Disney properties make the cut.
The four non-Disney hotels with both benefits
These are the non-Disney hotels where registered guests receive both 30-minute Early Theme Park Entry and the ability to buy Lightning Lane passes beginning seven days before the first day of their stay, for their full stay of up to 14 days:
- Walt Disney World Swan Hotel
- Walt Disney World Dolphin Hotel
- Walt Disney World Swan Reserve
- Shades of Green on Walt Disney World Resort
The Swan, Dolphin and Swan Reserve are especially appealing for guests who want to be in the EPCOT resort area without booking a Disney-operated hotel. They are walkable or boat-accessible to EPCOT and Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and the three hotels also participate in select-night Extended Evening Theme Park Hours—a separate perk not available at most other off-site partners.
Shades of Green is the military resort near Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. Its room eligibility rules are separate from Disney’s park-benefit rules, so be sure your party qualifies to book there before building a trip around it.
Non-Disney hotels with Early Entry only
The following hotels qualify registered guests for Early Theme Park Entry, but not the seven-day Lightning Lane window. Their guests generally follow the standard Lightning Lane purchase timing of three days before a park visit, subject to ticket type and Disney’s current rules.
- Four Seasons Resort Orlando
- Signia by Hilton Orlando Bonnet Creek
- Waldorf Astoria Orlando
- DoubleTree Suites by Hilton Orlando
- Drury Plaza Hotel Orlando Lake Buena Vista
- Hilton Orlando Buena Vista Palace
- Hilton Orlando Lake Buena Vista
- Holiday Inn Orlando – Disney Springs Area
- Renaissance Orlando Resort and Spa
- Wyndham Garden Lake Buena Vista
- Wyndham Lake Buena Vista
Planning Your Trip
Undercover Tourist is an authorized seller of Walt Disney World tickets, often at a discount off gate price.
That distinction makes Four Seasons a good example of why travelers should not assume every high-end Disney-area hotel has identical planning privileges. It offers Early Entry, but it is not in Disney’s current list for seven-day Lightning Lane purchasing. The same goes for the Bonnet Creek pair, Signia and Waldorf Astoria: they are close to the parks and receive Early Entry, but their guests do not receive that earlier Lightning Lane date.
What about Disney Springs Resort Area Hotels?
The seven hotels currently marketed together as Disney Springs Resort Area Hotels all offer Early Theme Park Entry: DoubleTree Suites by Hilton Orlando, Drury Plaza Hotel Orlando, Hilton Orlando Buena Vista Palace, Hilton Orlando Lake Buena Vista, Holiday Inn Orlando, Renaissance Orlando Resort and Spa, and Wyndham Garden Lake Buena Vista.
They are a practical fit for families who want easy access to Disney Springs dining and shopping, plus scheduled transportation to the parks. Just do not confuse their Early Entry benefit with full Disney Resort status: they do not receive the seven-day Lightning Lane window. The nearby Wyndham Lake Buena Vista is also on Disney’s Early Entry participant list, even though it is not part of the current seven-hotel Disney Springs Resort Area group.
How to use the benefits smoothly
First, link the hotel confirmation and every guest’s Disney World tickets in My Disney Experience before you travel. For Early Entry, bring a MagicBand, Disney MagicMobile pass or Key to the World Card, along with valid park admission. Arrive well before the early-entry start rather than treating it like a casual 30-minute window; security, transportation and the walk from the front gate still take time.
For the four hotels with seven-day Lightning Lane eligibility, the purchase window opens at 7:00 a.m. Eastern Time seven days before check-in. Have everyone connected in your Family & Friends list, with valid admission already linked, so the whole party can be included in one purchase.
Bottom line: For Early Entry alone, there are plenty of strong non-Disney choices. For the combination of Early Entry and the valuable seven-day Lightning Lane head start, book the Swan, Dolphin, Swan Reserve or Shades of Green—and always check current hotel and Disney details before you go.
