Disney World makes it wonderfully easy to get from a resort to a theme park, but getting directly from one hotel to another is a different story. There is not a regular, resort-to-resort bus network you can count on for hotel hopping. Instead, Disney transportation is designed around major hubs: the four theme parks, Disney Springs and a handful of resort-area connections by monorail, boat, Skyliner and walking path.
That is not a reason to skip a dinner at another resort. It simply means building transfer time into the plan. If your trip includes park days, coordinate dining times with your Disney World tickets so you are not trying to cross property at the same moment a park closes.
Why direct resort buses are limited
Disney’s buses primarily move hotel guests to and from the parks, water parks and Disney Springs. Running a direct bus between every possible pair of resorts would create a huge number of low-demand routes, long waits and confusing stop patterns. In practice, a resort-to-resort trip usually means taking transportation from your starting hotel to a park or Disney Springs, then changing to transportation for the destination hotel.
You do not need theme park admission simply to change buses at a park transportation area, but do allow plenty of time. A transfer can be easy when timing lines up—or it can involve two waits plus travel time. For a fixed dining reservation, plan to leave 60 to 90 minutes ahead when using only complimentary transportation, especially from a resort that is not in the same hotel cluster.
When Disney buses run
For theme parks, Disney states that resort bus service starts 45 minutes before park opening and continues until one hour after closing. Those hours are useful for park transfers, but they do not make late-night resort dining effortless: if you finish well after a nearby park has closed, that park may no longer be a practical connection point. Disney Springs buses operate during Disney Springs hours and for one hour after closing; service from Disney Springs to a Disney Resort hotel is intended for resort guests or visitors with a valid dining or experience reservation. Visitors may be asked to show proof, and guests with a reservation can board up to two hours before its time.
Check the My Disney Experience app on the day of your outing. It provides route guidance and stop locations, while resort guests can also see bus arrival estimates. Posted signs and Cast Members remain helpful backups when weather, special events or operating changes affect the usual pattern.
The fastest free options: stay within a resort neighborhood
- Monorail resort loop: Disney’s Contemporary, Grand Floridian and Polynesian are linked with Magic Kingdom and the Transportation and Ticket Center. For a meal at one of these hotels, the monorail is often the cleanest transfer; Contemporary is also walkable from Magic Kingdom.
- Magic Kingdom-area boats: Water launches connect Magic Kingdom with Grand Floridian, Polynesian Villas & Bungalows, Fort Wilderness and Wilderness Lodge. Boat service is scenic, though weather and operating conditions can affect it.
- Crescent Lake resorts: BoardWalk, Yacht Club, Beach Club, Swan and Dolphin are connected by walkways and FriendShip boats, with EPCOT’s International Gateway and Disney’s Hollywood Studios at either end. Walking is frequently the quickest choice between the hotels themselves.
- Skyliner resorts: The Disney Skyliner links Caribbean Beach, Riviera, Pop Century and Art of Animation with EPCOT’s International Gateway and Hollywood Studios. Caribbean Beach is the main transfer point, so a Pop Century-to-Riviera trip, for example, requires a gondola change there. From International Gateway, it is an easy walk to the BoardWalk and the Yacht and Beach Club area.
- Disney Springs boat resorts: Old Key West, Saratoga Springs, Port Orleans–Riverside and Port Orleans–French Quarter have Sassagoula River boat service to Disney Springs. This is especially handy for a Disney Springs dinner, but it is not the fastest way to reach a far-flung resort.

The best transfer strategy for most dining plans
For hotels outside the same transportation neighborhood, use the nearest open park as your hub: take a bus from your resort to that park, then board the destination resort’s bus. Choose the hub that best matches your destination. Magic Kingdom works well for monorail-area hotels; EPCOT or Hollywood Studios are smart for Crescent Lake and Skyliner resorts. Disney Springs can be useful in the evening for eligible diners, but it is usually a less efficient transfer for a meal at a resort.
If a reservation is important, a paid ride can be the stress-saving option. Minnie Van service, booked through the Lyft app from select Disney locations, serves Disney Resorts Collection hotels and provides an upfront fare estimate; prices vary by distance. It can be especially worthwhile for a cross-property breakfast, a tight dinner reservation, rainy weather or a return trip after transportation hours thin out. A compact portable phone charger is also handy for keeping the app, mobile reservation and ride-hailing options available through a long park day.
Driving and parking for resort dining
Day guests visiting Disney Resort hotels for select dining, shopping, entertainment or recreation experiences can receive complimentary standard self-parking, but entry and parking remain subject to availability. Keep your dining reservation easy to show at the gate, and do not assume a hotel lot will be available for an all-day visit. Resort access procedures can change, so confirm current details before you go.
Practical takeaway: Treat hotel hopping as a neighborhood activity whenever possible. For everything else, leave early, use a park hub for the free route, and choose Minnie Van or another ride service when being on time matters more than saving the fare.
