Planning around a child’s height can make a Walt Disney World day much smoother. The good news: most attractions across the four theme parks have no minimum height at all. For the rides that do, Disney’s current requirements fall at 32, 35, 38, 40, 42, 44 and 48 inches. Before you buy Disney World tickets, measure children in the shoes they will realistically wear in the parks—then build in a little margin if they are right on the line.

Every Walt Disney World height requirement

32 inches (81 cm): Alien Swirling Saucers at Disney’s Hollywood Studios; Tomorrowland Speedway at Magic Kingdom. Speedway drivers must be 54 inches to drive alone, but younger qualifying kids can ride with another driver.

35 inches (89 cm): The Barnstormer at Magic Kingdom.

38 inches (97 cm): Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and Seven Dwarfs Mine Train at Magic Kingdom; Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run and Slinky Dog Dash at Disney’s Hollywood Studios; Kali River Rapids at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

40 inches (102 cm): Tiana’s Bayou Adventure at Magic Kingdom; Mission: SPACE, Soarin’ and Test Track at EPCOT; Star Tours – The Adventures Continue, Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance and The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

42 inches (107 cm): Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind at EPCOT.

44 inches (112 cm): Space Mountain at Magic Kingdom; Avatar Flight of Passage and Expedition Everest – Legend of the Forbidden Mountain at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

48 inches (122 cm): TRON Lightcycle / Run at Magic Kingdom and Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Every attraction not named above is listed without a minimum height requirement. That does not automatically mean it will suit every child: darkness, drops, loud effects, spinning and restraint fit can matter just as much. Disney’s attraction listings and the My Disney Experience app are the best final checks, especially if an attraction changes, reopens or has updated procedures before your trip.

Where Disney measures children

There is no resort-wide measuring station or all-day height wristband. At rides with a restriction, a Cast Member generally measures a child at the queue entrance using that attraction’s height marker. A second check may happen later in the queue or near boarding, particularly for a child who is close to the cutoff.

That means a successful measurement at one ride is not a universal clearance for the day. Have your child stand naturally upright, with heels down, and avoid counting on bulky hair or thick-soled shoes to make up the difference. The rule is a safety requirement, not a negotiation point, so it is wise not to promise a specific ride until the on-site measurement is complete.

How Rider Switch works for families

Rider Switch is the practical answer when one child is too short, does not want to ride, or cannot wait outside a queue alone. Bring your entire party to the attraction entrance and tell a Cast Member you would like to use Rider Switch. The group divides into Party A, which enters the regular queue and rides first, and Party B, which waits outside with the non-rider.

The Cast Member scans the admission media for Party B and gives return instructions. When Party A is done, up to two people from Party B can use the designated return entrance and ride without waiting through the standard queue again. If Party B has one adult, one eligible older child can return with that adult—an especially nice perk for a big sibling who is happy to ride twice.

For a classic two-adult, two-child setup, send one adult and the ride-eligible child with Party A while the other adult stays with the little one. Then the adults swap, and the taller child can accompany the second adult on the return ride. It keeps everyone supervised and avoids making either adult sit out.

Rider Switch attractions to know

Rider Switch is offered at most major family-thrill attractions, but it is not simply a blanket benefit for every ride with a height rule. Current participating options include The Barnstormer, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Space Mountain, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, Tomorrowland Speedway and TRON; Guardians, Mission: SPACE, Soarin’ and Test Track; Alien Swirling Saucers, Millennium Falcon, Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster, Slinky Dog Dash, Star Tours, Rise of the Resistance and Tower of Terror; plus Flight of Passage, Expedition Everest, Kali River Rapids and Na’vi River Journey. Ask at the entrance on the day, since procedures can change.

Practical takeaway: Put your child’s confirmed height in your notes before each park day, plan a nearby no-height-required backup attraction, and request Rider Switch before anyone joins the queue—not after Party A has already gone inside.
