Poet and interdisciplinary artist J. Mae Barizo will give a public performance lecture at the University of Central Florida on Nov. 6.

The event begins at 4 p.m. in Room 402 of UCF’s John C. Hitt Library. It is set to include a presentation, question-and-answer session and book signing.

Barizo, known for prize-winning hybrid poetry and interdisciplinary work, is visiting through the Graduate Writers Association Literary Arts Series, a student-led initiative. The series also organizes Parcels: MFAs in Progress, a monthly reading event where UCF creative writing graduate students share contemporary poetry, fiction and creative nonfiction with the Orlando community.

Parcels is held at BookBurn Cafe and Social, in the former Whippoorwill Beer House space, and is also open to the public. Its next reading is scheduled for Nov. 15 at 4 p.m.

Faculty adviser David James Poissant founded Parcels after joining UCF in 2011. The series is designed as an informal setting for students to read developing work before an audience, followed by readings from faculty members or alumni.
