Disney Cruise Line has marked a major construction milestone for Disney Believe, its fourth Wish-class ship, with a keel-laying ceremony at Meyer Werft in Papenburg, Germany.

The vessel is scheduled to debut in late 2027. Disney Believe will carry about 4,000 passengers and join sister ships Disney Wish, Disney Treasure and Disney Destiny in the Wish class.

During the ceremony, Disney Cruise Line senior vice president and general manager Tracy Wilson and project management executive Andres Ovalles joined Meyer Werft chief executive André Walter and chief operating officer Jörg Heidelberg in placing a specially minted Tinker Bell coin beneath the keel. The maritime custom, which dates to Roman times, is traditionally associated with good luck during construction and safe future sailings.

The ceremony marked assembly of the ship’s second megablock. In September, its first gigablock was moved from the shipyard’s covered construction dock to an equipment quay for outfitting, according to Riviera.

Disney Believe is planned with 1,256 cabins and a gross tonnage of 144,000. It will measure 340.9 meters long, with a 37-meter beam and a maximum draught of 8.6 meters.

Like the other Wish-class ships, Disney Believe will use liquefied natural gas. Its LNG-hybrid-electric power plant will include five dual-fuel engines, while two ABB Azipod thrusters will provide propulsion. Riviera reported that the LNG system is intended to produce lower emissions than conventional propulsion systems.
