King tides are bringing coastal flooding, large waves and rip-current hazards to Boynton Beach and other parts of Florida’s East Coast this week, according to Weather.com.

Coastal flood warnings are in effect for several low-lying areas, with flooding expected to be most pronounced in locations with poor drainage. High tide is forecast around 9 to 11 p.m. for the next few days, a timing that may affect evening travel on flood-prone roads.

The conditions have led to some road and beach closures in Florida. King tides occur a few times each year when the moon is at perigee, or its closest point to Earth, while aligned with Earth and the sun.
