Visitors building lightsabers at Savi’s Workshop in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge can now choose an updated Protection and Defense hilt theme at Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resort.

Disney Parks Blog announced the change Oct. 5. The refreshed design uses white finishes and gold detailing, with styling inspired by Star Wars’ High Republic era and ancient Jedi iconography. It is the second hilt theme to receive a third-generation update, following the Power and Control refresh in May 2026.

The changes extend beyond the new hilt option. Disney says every lightsaber built at Savi’s Workshop now has a thermal cutting effect, deflection effects, a spinning effect, improved audio and smoother blade activation.

Guests can also use special cracked Kyber crystals to trigger a blue-to-red color-change effect with a flick of the wrist, according to Disney.

The upgraded lightsabers are available now at Savi’s Workshop inside Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Florida and Disneyland Park in California. Guests must purchase a lightsaber to take part, and reservations are recommended for the build-your-own experience.
