Walt Disney World's long-anticipated Villains Land is coming into sharper focus. The expansion, planned for the area beyond Big Thunder Mountain at Magic Kingdom, has been compared in scale to Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge and will include themed dining, shopping, and two major attractions. Now, Walt Disney Imagineering has shared the first real storytelling and musical details for the project.
The land's flagship roller coaster centers on Maleficent, whose silhouette — complete with green flames and jagged architecture — dominated early concept art. Imagineers have confirmed the ride's narrative: guests receive a formal invitation to visit Maleficent's mountaintop fortress, only to discover the catch. Riders must navigate the enchanted briar — the massive wall of magical thorns from Sleeping Beauty — dodging jagged thorns and ruined battlements in what promises to be a fast, visually dramatic E-ticket experience.
On the audio side, Imagineer Mary Webster confirmed that the creative team is already deep in development on the land's atmospheric soundtrack. "It's been awesome to be able to dive into all this music," Webster said. "The rich catalog. All the animated films. Lots of treats for y'all in this music." Disney Villains are known for some of the most theatrical songs in animation history, giving the team a deep well of source material to draw from.
Together, the briar-coaster storyline and a soundtrack built from the villains' classic catalog signal that Disney is treating this expansion as more than a ride addition — it's a deliberate tonal counterweight to the fairy-tale optimism of Cinderella Castle. The contrast between the park's iconic centerpiece and Maleficent's thorny fortress is shaping up to be one of Magic Kingdom's most dramatic design moves in decades.
