Some of the newer trash cans installed at Walt Disney World have been removed from the queue for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure at Magic Kingdom Park, with older metal receptacles now back in place.

WDWNT reported the change on Sunday, publishing photos that showed the older bins along the Frontierland attraction’s line. Disney has not explained why the receptacles were swapped out or said whether the redesigned models will return to the queue.

Disney had been replacing older bins across its parks, hotels and Disney Springs with a new design featuring curved lids and hands-free foot pedals. Outdoor versions include solar panels that power an internal compactor, reducing how often custodial cast members need to change bags.

The rollout prompted guest complaints, particularly at EPCOT festivals, where flat-topped cans had sometimes been used as makeshift surfaces for food trays and drinks. Disney also released a video demonstrating the pedal-operated design after some guests reportedly tried to put trash through the handle rather than opening the lid.

Redesigned receptacles remain in use elsewhere at Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park and Disney Springs.

The queue change comes ahead of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure’s first scheduled refurbishment. The attraction, which opened in 2024 as a reimagining of Splash Mountain, is set to close November 2, 2026, with a reopening expected sometime in December; Disney has not announced a specific return date.
