Some visitors to Universal Orlando’s Epic Universe are reporting missing or inactive effects on Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment, the dark ride in the park’s Dark Universe land.
A video shared on social media Oct. 28 reportedly showed three effects not operating during one ride: an animatronic of Frankenstein’s Monster, Dracula’s aerial sequence and a hunchback figure in a bell. The ride vehicle continued through the attraction, but the reported missing movements and darkened Dracula scene affected major story moments.
Guests have also posted complaints about stationary animatronics, missing effects and preshow issues since Epic Universe opened in May 2025, according to Disney Fanatic. One commenter said the preshow featuring Frankenstein and Dr. Victoria was dark during a recent visit and guests walked through the space.
Universal has not publicly confirmed a permanent fix for the specific issues shown in the video.

The reports concern a ride built around elaborate environments and animated versions of Universal movie-monster characters, including Frankenstein’s Monster and Dracula. Other Epic Universe attractions—including Donkey Kong Mine-Cart Madness, Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry, and Hiccup’s Wing Gliders—have also drawn online reports of delays or temporary downtime. Those reports do not establish that the attractions are continuously unavailable, but they reflect reliability concerns from some guests.
