Florida families have some serious bragging rights: a new round of U.S. News & World Report high school rankings placed 13 Florida schools among the top 100 in the nation, a total matched only by Arizona. Texas came in third with 11 schools in the national top 100.
Leading the South Florida charge is the Marine Academy of Science and Technology — known as MAST@FIU — in North Miami. The Miami-Dade County public school landed at No. 2 in Florida and No. 31 nationally, trailing only Pine View School in Osprey (No. 13 nationally) for the state's top spot. The rankings weighed factors like college readiness, curriculum breadth, graduation rates, and performance on state assessments.
Miami-Dade County's showing is especially striking: six of its schools cracked the national top 100. Archimedean Upper Conservatory Charter School came in fourth statewide (No. 39 nationally), Jose Marti MAST 6-12 Academy in Hialeah ranked sixth (No. 55), I Preparatory Academy placed ninth (No. 86), and Terra Environmental Research Institute rounded out the Miami-Dade contingent at tenth (No. 87). Magnet and charter programs dominate the county's top performers.
Beyond South Florida, other standout Florida schools included Neocity Academy in Kissimmee (No. 35 nationally), West Shore Junior/Senior High School in Melbourne (No. 47), Stanton College Preparatory School in Jacksonville (No. 63), and Suncoast Community High School in Riviera Beach (No. 81).
