St. Johns County will host a Slow Food First Coast Snail of Approval presentation on Nov. 17, bringing area farmers together with chefs, restaurant owners and other food-business representatives.
The free event is scheduled from 2 to 3 p.m. at The Floridian, 485 Old Beach Road in St. Augustine. It is being hosted by St. Johns County, The Floridian and the St. Augustine, Ponte Vedra and The Beaches Visitors and Convention Bureau.
The presentation will focus on farmers able to supply seasonal fruits and vegetables to Northeast Florida businesses. Prissy Fletcher, the county’s agricultural liaison, said the gathering is intended to help strengthen the local food economy and improve understanding of when locally grown crops are available.
Attendees will also learn about Slow Food First Coast’s Snail of Approval designation. The honor recognizes local farmers, purveyors, restaurateurs and artisans that source locally and sustainably, create a positive environmental impact, embrace inclusive business values, participate in their communities, and support staff and cultural diversity in food.
Recipients are listed on the National Snail of Approval Map. Slow Food First Coast, a St. Johns County-based nonprofit established in 2007, works to connect viable farms with communities seeking local food on Florida’s First Coast.
Registration and additional event details are available through 904Tix.
