Visitors to Islands of Adventure are now greeted by construction walls almost as soon as they walk through the gate. Beige scrim and brown barriers have gone up around portions of two Port of Entry shops — Island Market and Export and the Port of Entry Christmas Shoppe — though both stores remain open for business while work continues. One wall carries a "Please pardon our dust" message, and another displays a playful "Islands Air" design featuring a plane and Islands of Adventure branding.
Universal hasn't said what's behind the walls or how long the project will last, but the location means it's essentially impossible for guests to miss. Port of Entry sets the mood for the entire park before visitors branch off toward Marvel Super Hero Island or Seuss Landing, so even a modest construction zone there registers immediately.
The bigger story, though, is happening deeper inside the park. Universal is actively demolishing what remains of the Lost Continent, the themed land that has been part of Islands of Adventure since the park opened in 1999. The former Eighth Voyage of Sindbad theater — which closed in 2018 — has already been removed, and demolition work has since moved on to the area around the former Poseidon's Fury attraction, which closed in 2023. The Lost Continent had already lost a significant chunk of its original footprint when The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Hogsmeade was built there years ago.
Universal has not announced what will take the Lost Continent's place. Pokémon has emerged as the most persistent rumor tied to the site, which would give Universal a second major gaming-franchise land alongside SUPER NINTENDO WORLD at the newly opened Epic Universe. That said, no official confirmation has been made, and the destination of the replacement land remains speculation for now.
