The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is accepting public feedback on draft Species Conservation Measures and Permitting Guidelines for the limpkin and the Key silverside.

The draft documents address requirements in the Florida Administrative Code related to permits for intentional and incidental take. They also cover each species’ range, survey methods and recommended practices, according to FWC.

Written comments will be accepted from Oct. 30 through Nov. 30, 2026. FWC has separate comment forms for the Key silverside and limpkin guidelines. People who need more time or an alternate comment format can contact the agency at [email protected].

FWC will also hold two online webinars for each species during the comment period. The Key silverside sessions are scheduled for Nov. 5 and Nov. 16 from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Eastern. Limpkin sessions are scheduled for Nov. 17 and Nov. 30 from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Eastern.

Each pair of webinars will cover the same information for its respective species and will allow participants to ask questions and offer feedback. FWC said webinar slides will be posted online for people unable to attend.

Participants can join through Microsoft Teams or listen by phone. Details on the draft documents, comment forms and webinar access are available through FWC’s Species Conservation Measures and Permitting Guidelines page.
