Construction crews have moved well beyond clearing land at Walt Disney World's former STOLport site near Magic Kingdom. Trenching is underway at the center of the property, and workers are burying white PVC water piping and gray electrical conduit — with some of it already poking vertically out of the ground where two permanent office buildings are planned for Walt Disney Imagineering staff.
The project, known as "Project K," was permitted by the South Florida Water Management District in August 2025 and covers roughly 12.5 acres of the old Walt Disney World Airport property off World Drive. Beyond the two buildings, the permit covers sidewalks, parking, utilities, and alterations to two existing retention ponds. Shipping containers and additional construction materials have begun arriving on site.
These will be permanent structures, a step up from the temporary trailer offices that have historically occupied the STOLport property. The reason for the upgrade is the scale of what's coming: Disney is developing two entirely new lands at Magic Kingdom that are expected to take several years to complete.
Piston Peak National Park, a Cars-inspired expansion of Frontierland, will replace the permanently closed Tom Sawyer Island and Rivers of America, bringing Rocky Mountain scenery, water features, barrel bridges, and two new attractions. Disney Villains Land — its official name still unannounced — is planned behind Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and will feature two attractions, dining, shopping, and imagery drawn from a roster of classic Disney villains including Maleficent, Ursula, Jafar, and Hades, among others.
