Universal Orlando Resort has filed a Notice of Commencement hiring ride engineering firm Garmendale for an "Equipment Install" at Islands of Adventure. While the permit's address is generic, the Lost Continent is currently the only area at that park where a brand-new ride is anticipated in the near term.
The Lost Continent is actively being torn down to make way for something yet to be announced by Universal. Both the Eighth Voyage of Sindbad theater and the Poseidon's Fury building have been or are being demolished, which means whatever replaces the area will need entirely new attractions built from scratch rather than retrofitted into existing structures.
Garmendale has a history with Universal, having previously contributed to the gating system on Jurassic World VelociCoaster as well as other Jurassic-themed rides internationally. The firm's portfolio covers a range of ride systems including motion simulators, spinners, boats, trains, and people movers. A secondary possibility raised by observers is that Garmendale could instead be involved in a refurbishment of the nearby Jurassic Park River Adventure.
