Guests planning a fall trip to Walt Disney World should note that Typhoon Lagoon Water Park will wrap up its season on September 8, 2026, heading into its annual refurbishment the following day. The closure is not a surprise — the park routinely shuts down each year for upkeep — but the timing is notable for a couple of reasons.
This marks the end of a back-to-back summer stretch in which both of Disney World's water parks operated at the same time, something that hadn't happened with regularity for much of the past decade. Previously, Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach operated on an alternating schedule, with one open while the other underwent maintenance. Blizzard Beach will stay open throughout Typhoon Lagoon's refurbishment period.
The closure date also falls conveniently one day after Disney World's Cool Kids Summer promotion ends — a perk that offered complimentary water park admission to resort hotel guests on their check-in date. Once Typhoon Lagoon eventually reopens after its multi-month refurbishment, Blizzard Beach is expected to begin its own closure cycle.
Looking further ahead, Disney has already confirmed that the Free Water Park Perk — along with both parks operating simultaneously — is set to return in the summer of 2027. Typhoon Lagoon originally opened in 1989 and is themed around a tropical island struck by a massive storm, featuring wave pools, water coasters, and a variety of slides.
