Construction on the Tropical Americas land at Disney's Animal Kingdom reached a visible milestone this week, as workers used a boom lift to lower the central framing for the carousel roof into position. A crew atop the structure carefully aligned and secured the prefabricated section as it was set in place.
The week prior had already seen progress, with beams for the outer section of the carousel roof going up alongside a boxy steel framework that forms the support system for a second, smaller central roof — details that align with previously released concept art for the area.
The carousel will feature wood-carved Disney animals, among them Kevin, the colorful bird from the Pixar film Up. It will anchor Pueblo Esperanza, the fictional village at the heart of the new land.
Tropical Americas is expected to open in 2027 and will also include a ride based on Encanto, a reimagined Indiana Jones adventure built from the bones of the existing DINOSAUR attraction, and a new playground area.
