St. Petersburg's Imagine Museum is turning its galleries into a comic-inspired playground Friday through Sunday, hosting an exhibition where pop culture meets contemporary glass art. Vendors, live music, fandom trivia, and $5 admission make it a low-key way to spend an afternoon — and if you show up in cosplay, you get in free.
Over in Brandon, the night sky gets a serious upgrade Friday and Saturday when 1,200 synchronized drones take flight above Tampa Bay Tournament Sportsplex for a 60-minute Harry Potter–themed drone show. The outdoor spectacle pairs iconic moments from the films with live violin and original soundtrack music. Ticket prices vary.
Saturday morning belongs to the St. Pete Saturday Morning Market at Williams Park, where around 140 local vendors set up shop from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. with fresh produce, handmade goods, artisan food, and international eats — and yes, leashed dogs are welcome. It's one of the last markets before summer wraps up, so don't sleep on it.
Also on Saturday, the Morean Arts Center hosts the 15th Annual Great St. Pete Cupcake Contest from 1 to 3 p.m., where amateur and professional bakers face off for cupcake supremacy. General admission runs $25, or $20 for Morean members, and the public gets to taste and vote. That same day, Tampa Bay Food Tours leads a walking culinary crawl through downtown Dunedin hitting five or six spots for seafood, house specialties, craft beer, and spirits — prices and departure times vary.
Rounding out the weekend, Trophy Fish in St. Petersburg hosts a $75 Gyotaku Fish Printing Workshop on Sunday in honor of National Beach Day, walking participants through the traditional Japanese art of printing with fish and letting them take their original artwork home.
