Gainesville got a once-in-a-generation moment on Sunday when all three of the University of Florida's Heisman Trophy-winning quarterbacks — Steve Spurrier, Tim Tebow, and Danny Wuerffel — gathered under one roof for the inaugural Florida Legends Card Show at the Alachua County Sports & Events Center.
The event, organized by local businessman Freddie Wehbe, was built around a trading card show and fan experience, but its deeper purpose was charity. The goal: raise $1 million for Isaiah 117 House, a nonprofit that provides temporary shelter and support for children removed from their families while awaiting foster care placement. A high-priced private dinner at Spurrier's Gridiron Grille capped the evening, with all three legends as guests of honor.
Fans got to do more than just shake hands — they tossed short passes with the trio, collected autographs, and shared hugs with players who have meant so much to Gator Nation over the decades. Spurrier spoke to why the cause resonated with him, noting that without intervention, a troubling share of children in the foster care system end up homeless by their late teens or early twenties. Isaiah 117 House, he said, works to give those kids a real shot.
Wuerffel summed up the rarity of the occasion simply: getting all three of them together in Gainesville, just for Gators fans, is about as uncommon as it gets. Each of the three men carries bronze statues and Ring of Honor plaques at The Swamp, but beyond football, both Tebow and Wuerffel are well known for their extensive charitable work off the field.
