SpaceX is seeking Florida approval to build and operate a 32.4-mile natural gas pipeline in Brevard County to support planned Starship operations at Cape Canaveral.

Coastal Connect Services, a SpaceX subsidiary, asked the Florida Public Service Commission to approve a tariff for the proposed 16-inch transmission line, according to a September regulatory filing. The route would connect SpaceX facilities to the existing Florida Gas Transmission interstate pipeline.

SpaceX said its current fuel-supply arrangement, which relies on trucks and local pipelines, cannot meet its growing needs at Cape Canaveral. Natural gas delivered through the new line could supply the methane feedstock used to produce liquid methane propellant for Starship's Raptor engines.

Starship's Super Heavy booster and upper stage both use Raptor engines fueled by liquid methane and liquid oxygen. The company said a dedicated connection would provide safe, timely and efficient natural gas deliveries as it expands Florida operations.

The proposal has not been authorized for construction. The Florida Public Service Commission would need to approve the requested tariff before the project could move ahead.

SpaceX has also sought approval for an approximately 8-mile natural gas pipeline serving its Starbase launch complex near Boca Chica, Texas. The proposed Florida line would be roughly four times longer.
