SpaceX is proposing a 32.4-mile natural gas pipeline in Brevard County to support planned Starship launches from Cape Canaveral.
The company’s subsidiary, Coastal Connect Services, would connect the line to the existing Florida Gas Transmission system and carry natural gas toward SpaceX operations at the Cape, according to filings cited by ClickOrlando.
SpaceX says Starship’s methane fuel needs are too large to depend on truck deliveries as launch activity grows. The company said a single launch could require hundreds of truckloads of liquefied natural gas, and that a pipeline would provide more reliable volume while reducing reliance on tanker trucks.
The Florida Public Service Commission considered the proposal this week. Its role concerns regulation of the natural-gas transportation service and rates, rather than environmental approval for construction of the pipeline itself.
The proposal is tied to SpaceX’s broader plans for Starship activity on the Space Coast. The Federal Aviation Administration is reviewing a proposal for up to 76 Starship/Super Heavy launches annually from Space Launch Complex 37, along with as many as 152 booster and spacecraft landings each year.
Environmental advocates have raised concerns about the pace of commercial-space growth and potential effects on habitat around the Cape, including areas near Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge. The pipeline has become part of the larger local discussion over expanding launch infrastructure while protecting the surrounding environment.
