Ask Royal Caribbean fans which ship they most want to try, and the answer is nearly unanimous: the Icon Class. When Royal Caribbean Blog posed that question on Reddit, roughly four in ten respondents pointed to Icon of the Seas, Star of the Seas, or Legend of the Seas — a margin so wide that no other ship class came close.

The appeal isn't hard to understand. These are the largest cruise ships in the world, and Royal Caribbean has successfully built them into a must-do bucket-list experience. Interestingly, even cruisers who typically prefer smaller, quieter vessels say they feel pulled toward the Icon Class just to say they've done it. One Reddit user who self-described as a small-ship fan summed it up simply: "The heart wants what the heart wants."

The main thing standing between many fans and an Icon Class sailing isn't lack of interest — it's the price. At the time of publication, the lowest advertised fare on Royal Caribbean's website was $810 per person for a 7-night Star of the Seas sailing, with most inside cabin prices climbing closer to $1,000 per person. Several commenters noted that the same dollars could buy a balcony cabin on other Royal Caribbean ships, making the upgrade harder to justify right now.

That said, the high prices don't appear to be killing demand so much as delaying it. Most fans said they're watching for a better deal rather than abandoning the idea altogether. The ships are clearly seen as worth experiencing — just not necessarily at today's rates.

Not everyone is chasing the megaship experience, though. A notable number of Reddit respondents went the opposite direction, naming older and smaller ships like the Radiance Class or Voyager Class Navigator of the Seas as their next target — proof that classic, relaxed cruising still has a loyal following.
