A general rule: don't bother checking more than six months out, since Royal Caribbean gradually loads information as your sail date approaches and the app will look pretty bare early on.
Between four and six months before your cruise, the app shifts from empty to interesting. Drink packages, Wi-Fi, dining, and shore excursions start appearing, and while prices at this stage may not be at their lowest, sales run nearly every week — so it's worth a quick look weekly to catch a better deal. The 60-to-90-day window is when things get serious: popular shore excursions fill up fast, and since almost everything booked through the app (aside from the Royal Genie service) is refundable, the advice is to book anything appealing and decide later. Crucially, online check-in opens exactly 45 days before departure, and jumping in right at that moment gives you the best shot at an early boarding time — which means more time on the ship before the crowds arrive.
Around 30 days out, guests on Oasis Class, Icon Class, and Quantum Class ships can begin reserving complimentary shows — headliners, comedy, and Broadway productions — and My Time Dining or specialty restaurant slots should be locked in if they haven't been already. Two weeks before sailing, the daily activity schedule fills in fully, theme nights become visible under the Daily Planner, and Main Dining Room menus start loading. This is also a good moment to make sure everyone in your travel party has the app installed and can access the reservation.
In the final week, the app doubles as a checklist: arrival time, boarding documents, entertainment, dining, excursions, and port schedules all deserve a review. Anything left unbooled will cost more if you wait and purchase it onboard. The day before the cruise, completing the brief health questionnaire in the app can speed up terminal check-in and may even unlock Express Boarding. On embarkation morning, before leaving your hotel, confirm that your SetSail pass pulls up while you still have a reliable internet or cellular connection.
