Two years after opening to the public, the North Florida Wildlife Center says it is drawing more visitors to Jefferson County and supporting local employment.

Community Relations Manager Tiffany Fredette told WTXL that the center welcomed 10,000 visitors during the past year, representing a 25% increase in attendance. Visitors have come from Florida, Georgia and more distant states, according to the center.

Center officials say those trips can also bring spending to Jefferson County restaurants, gas stations and local stores. The facility employs about 15 full- and part-time workers and is supported by volunteers.

The center says its growing public presence is helping connect residents and travelers with wildlife education and conservation efforts while contributing to the local economy.
