Construction on Monstropolis at Disney's Hollywood Studios hit a visible milestone this week when workers removed the forms from a fresh set of concrete entrance columns, revealing the structures underneath. Crew members in lifts were spotted working on the columns Saturday morning, August 22.
This is actually the second attempt at these columns. Disney previously demolished the original Muppets Courtyard entrance, built an initial set of four columns, tore those down, and is now working through this newer version. According to concept art, the columns will ultimately be clad in faux brickwork, matching the aesthetic of The Glob theater — the building formerly known as the MuppetVision 3D theater.
Elsewhere in the construction zone, scaffolding is beginning to come down from the former Gonzo's Royal Flush restrooms and PizzeRizzo. The restrooms building already received monster-themed design elements earlier this summer, and at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, Disney revealed that PizzeRizzo will be reimagined as Archie's Scare Pig Pizza — named for the six-legged Fear Tech mascot from Monsters University.
Disney has also shared names for additional Monstropolis dining venues and shops, details on The Glob stage show, a look at the Harryhausen's restaurant, and a preview of the door roller coaster attraction. The land is expected to open in phases beginning in 2027.
