Construction crews at Disney's Hollywood Studios have pulled down most of the scaffolding surrounding The Glob Theater's clock tower in the emerging Monstropolis land, and what's coming into view is striking. The tower sports a red brick facade with deliberate gaps running down the four corners and across the lower portion of the structure — openings that, based on concept art revealed at D23, are designed to accommodate the green-gray decorative trim and piping shown in the original renderings.
The rest of The Glob Theater remains behind scaffolding for now, though crews were spotted with the beige scrim rolled up — possibly a temporary weather-related move, or possibly a sign that more of the building's exterior will soon be on display. Across from the theater, work is also progressing on the building that formerly housed Gonzo's Royal Flush, where scaffolding and rolled-up scrim similarly obscure the view.
Monstropolis is replacing the longtime Muppets Courtyard section of Hollywood Studios and is shaping up to be a substantial new land. D23 brought a wave of announcements about the area, including details on Harryhausen's restaurant and other dining and retail spots, a fully rendered look at the load area for the upcoming door coaster, and the news that Randy Newman composed an original song for the attraction.
