Construction on the upcoming Monsters, Inc. roller coaster at Disney's Hollywood Studios is moving fast, and new aerial images give fans their clearest look yet at how the attraction is coming together. Overhead photos captured by aerial photographer bioreconstruct show a dense, multilevel steel framework rising from a sprawling concrete foundation — one so large it's visible from within the neighboring Galaxy's Edge land.
The most intricate steelwork is concentrated near what appears to be the ride's opening sequence. That area is designed to immerse guests in the film's iconic door vault — the towering, rack-filled facility where thousands of children's bedroom doors are stored and shuttled overhead during the movie's climactic chase. Door-shaped suspended ride vehicles are expected to ascend into this taller section of the structure as the experience kicks off.
Crews have already begun laying corrugated steel floor decking over portions of the framework, and once concrete floors are poured above, much of the underlying track infrastructure will disappear from view. Separate support levels within the structure hint at how the coaster's track will weave through multiple elevations, including a section that passes above the unload area.
Other details emerging from the site include what may be a maintenance bay — identifiable by a pair of parallel rails near the lower portion of construction — along with foundations for a future exit gift shop and queue areas, marked by bright yellow vapor barriers. Track installation for the attraction began in late June.
Disney has described the Monsters, Inc. coaster as its first suspended roller coaster, with guests riding beneath the track in door-themed vehicles alongside characters from the Pixar film. This construction update was first reported by WDW News Today.
