Drivers heading to Walt Disney World should plan ahead for a brief but potentially disruptive road closure. Interstate 4 eastbound, from World Drive to U.S. 192, is scheduled to close overnight from 11:00 PM on Sunday, July 19th through 5:00 AM on Monday, July 20th. The closure is part of ongoing roadwork aimed at improving traffic flow in the area.
At the same time, the on-ramps from World Drive to State Road 417 northbound will also be shut down. The good news: I-4 eastbound off-ramps to World Drive will stay open, so guests already near the resort shouldn't have too much trouble getting where they need to go.
Detour signage will be posted for those affected. Drivers on I-4 eastbound can exit at Exit 62B toward Disney World and Celebration, head north on World Drive for about 1.7 miles, then take the U.S. 192 eastbound exit toward Kissimmee before re-entering I-4 eastbound toward Orlando. Those coming from World Drive southbound should continue to Celebration Boulevard, make a U-turn to head north, and follow the same U.S. 192 route back to I-4.
Since many Disney-bound travelers drive overnight to beat traffic and arrive early, even a short closure window could affect arrival times or require a last-minute reroute. Checking a navigation app before departure — and watching for physical detour signs — is a smart move for anyone hitting the road Sunday night.
