Key West Fantasy Fest 2027 is set for Friday, October 22, through Sunday, October 31. The festival’s signature parade is traditionally held on the final Saturday, placing the big Duval Street night on Saturday, October 30, 2027. That is the date to protect if glittering floats, elaborate costumes and shoulder-to-shoulder street energy are your priority.

One important planning note: the full 2027 schedule, event tickets, parade route operations and venue-specific viewing parties have not been released yet. Organizers generally begin assembling the schedule in mid-July and expect it to be complete in early to mid-September. In other words, reserve the trip framework now, then choose paid events once the official listings go live. Check current details before you go, since individual parties, prices and street operations can change.

Choose your Fantasy Fest dates by the experience you want

  • October 22-23: A smart choice for visitors who want the opening-weekend buzz, including annual opening-night festivities and the Goombay Festival, without centering the trip on the biggest late-week crowds.
  • October 24-28: Best for a fuller festival itinerary. Annual Monday-through-Thursday traditions include costume contests, the 5K, Tutu Tuesday, themed bar events and the Headdress Ball. Expect lots of nightlife and some rolling street closures, but more breathing room than parade weekend.
  • October 29-31: Choose this window for the most concentrated, high-energy version of Fantasy Fest: Friday’s events, Saturday’s parade and the closing Sunday gatherings. It is also the toughest stretch for finding convenient lodging, restaurant tables and easy transportation.

If you are flying in or staying in Old Town, book your room well ahead. Fantasy Fest recommends planning roughly seven to 10 months out; for an October 2027 stay, that means starting in approximately December 2026 through March 2027. Staying near Duval is wonderfully convenient, but a room a few blocks away can make it easier to sleep, regroup and step out of the noise when you need a reset.

How to book Fantasy Fest parade viewing

The parade itself is free to watch from public areas along the route. For many visitors, arriving early, claiming a legal sidewalk spot and settling in with patience is all that is needed. The tradeoff is the crowd: you will stand for hours, views can be obstructed and crossing Duval becomes difficult once closures begin.

A paid viewing party is worth considering if you value a restroom, food, a drink, seating or a more controlled place to wait. In recent years, Duval businesses have offered options ranging from sidewalk chairs and porches to balconies, patios, reserved tables and dinner packages. The details matter: a ticket may secure entry but not a specific chair, while another may include assigned seating. Read the listing closely before paying.

For 2027, start with the official Fantasy Fest schedule as soon as it publishes. Individual venues either sell directly or link visitors to KeysTix. Book the exact party you want rather than assuming every Duval restaurant or bar has a parade package. Popular balcony and reserved-seat events can have limited capacity, and some recent parties have begun sales around September 1. Confirm the cancellation policy, check-in time, included food and drinks, whether seats are reserved, and whether the viewing area is upstairs, street level or standing-room only.

Navigating Duval Street on parade night

Recent parade operations have closed Duval Street at 6 p.m. for a 7 p.m. step-off, with the route running from the Truman Waterfront/Southard area via Whitehead and Front streets before turning onto Duval and continuing south. Treat that as a useful planning pattern, not a locked-in 2027 promise: the city will publish the final closure notice closer to the event.

On Saturday, get into your preferred neighborhood early, eat earlier than usual and carry only essentials. The festival’s designated Fantasy Zone/Costume Promenade has rules: no glass, backpacks, coolers, packages, water guns, weapons or replica weapons. A small secure pocket setup and a water-resistant phone pouch are much easier than trying to manage a bag in the crowd.

Do not plan on driving between stops. Downtown Key West is compact enough that most destinations are within about a 15-minute walk, and walking is usually the simplest parade-night move. If using a rideshare or taxi, expect pickups and drop-offs to be directed toward or east of Simonton Street; arrange a meeting point with your group before service gets spotty. Bikes and pedicabs can be useful earlier in the week, but parade-night pedestrian density makes walking the safer bet.

Fantasy Fest is playful, but it is still a public event: public nudity and lewd conduct are illegal, and alcohol in open containers is limited to the designated festival area. Practical takeaway: reserve your lodging first, pick a paid parade view only if comfort is worth the premium, and make one clear meet-up plan before Duval Street closes.
