Walt Disney World Resort has been gradually introducing solar-powered trash cans throughout EPCOT since May, and the eco-friendly upgrade has generally been well received. The sleek new receptacles use solar energy to compact waste, reducing how often they need to be emptied.
But a recent discovery has guests scratching their heads. As of early July, at least one of the solar-powered cans has turned up in an indoor location inside EPCOT — a spot where direct sunlight simply isn't available to power it.
Whether the indoor unit is fully operational, running on stored charge, or simply placed there as part of a broader aesthetic rollout across the park remains unclear. Disney has not offered a public explanation for the placement.
