One of the more artisan corners of EPCOT's Mexico World Showcase Pavilion is heading out the door. The Oaxacan wood-carving stand tucked into the Plaza de los Amigos — the indoor marketplace inside the iconic pyramid — is set to close on Monday, August 31, 2026, according to a Disney cast member cited by theme park news outlet WDWNT.
Signs posted on the stand's tables are currently advertising the entire inventory at 50% off as the shop liquidates. The stand has long been a distinctive spot in the pavilion, selling hand-carved wooden statues sourced from the Oaxacan Valley in southern Mexico. The pieces are crafted by artisans who use pocketknives and machetes to shape the wood, then sand and hand-paint each figure.
Guests worried about bigger changes to the pavilion can breathe easy — the closure appears to be limited to the wood-carving stand alone. The Gran Fiesta Tour Starring the Three Caballeros ride, the San Angel Inn Restaurante, and the rest of the shops inside the pyramid are all expected to continue operating normally after August 31.
Walt Disney World has not announced what, if anything, will take the stand's place. Given that it occupies just a few tables near the pyramid's entrance and exit, it's possible the space will simply remain open to give guests a little more room to move around the marketplace.
