Guests arriving at EPCOT have noticed something missing lately: the park's entrance fountain, a fixture near the front gate, has been sitting still and silent. Observers spotted it inactive on both Tuesday, July 21 and Wednesday, July 22, 2026, with no visible construction barriers or maintenance equipment nearby to explain the shutdown.
One leading theory is that Disney turned off and drained the fountain to collect the coins visitors have tossed in over time. A thick layer of pennies was visible on the fountain's floor. The timing lines up with a similar recent action at a reflecting pool near the Imagination! pavilion, where coins were also recently gathered.
Disney periodically harvests coins from water features across Walt Disney World property, donating the proceeds to Make-A-Wish and Give Kids The World Village — two organizations that serve children facing serious illnesses.
The fountain itself is a relatively recent addition to the park. Built in 2020 as part of a broader reimagining of EPCOT's entrance plaza, it replaced an older fountain that had stood in roughly the same spot since the park opened. The current design features three lucite pylons etched with the EPCOT logo and color-changing lights that sync with Spaceship Earth shows after dark.
