Walt Disney World visitors who need help covering long distances can choose between renting an electric conveyance vehicle, or ECV, at the parks and Disney Springs or arranging a rental through an outside provider.
Disney’s in-park ECV rentals are offered daily at designated locations on a first-come, first-served basis; advance reservations are not accepted. Those scooters must stay at the location where they were rented, so an ECV picked up at Magic Kingdom cannot travel back to a resort or on Disney transportation. Guests visiting another park the same day may use their receipt to seek another ECV, subject to availability.
Outside rentals can allow a guest to keep the same scooter for multiple days and use it at a resort, Disney Springs and other destinations, depending on the provider and delivery arrangements. The sponsored WDWNT guide notes that outside companies may also offer different scooter sizes and advance reservations.
Choosing between an ECV and a manual wheelchair depends on a guest’s mobility needs. ECVs can provide more independence for someone able to sit upright and safely operate the controls, while a manual wheelchair may suit guests who prefer assistance from a companion or need a smaller device for tighter spaces.
Disney buses, the Monorail and Disney Skyliner accommodate qualifying scooters and wheelchairs. Bus space depends on the vehicle and whether designated mobility-device spaces are already in use; the guide says most buses can hold up to two devices. Guests should tell the driver or a Cast Member they need accessible boarding and follow instructions for ramps, positioning and securement.
Planning Your Trip
Undercover Tourist is an authorized seller of Walt Disney World tickets, often at a discount off gate price.
Water transportation is less uniform. Many Disney boats can accommodate mobility devices, but the available access can vary with the vessel, dock setup and water levels. Guests planning to use a boat should check with a Cast Member before boarding.
For guests considering an outside rental, the guide advises looking at a scooter’s turning radius, weight capacity, battery needs, seat comfort and whether it must fit in a car. New riders should practice starting, stopping, turning, reversing and parking in an open area before heading into crowded park spaces. Visitors planning a trip can also review Disney World ticket options alongside their transportation and mobility plans.
