Walt Disney World has a lot of construction happening across its four parks right now, and Disney just gave fans a rare close-up look at all of it in a new behind-the-scenes video. The footage covers five separate projects simultaneously underway on property — more than most guests can glimpse past the construction walls on a regular visit.
At Magic Kingdom, the video offers a closer look at Piston Peak, a Cars-themed land coming to Frontierland, as the site prepares to go vertical. Disney also revealed that Imagineers use a "balloon test" — floating large balloons above construction sites while team members are stationed throughout the park — to check sightlines and ensure new structures blend naturally with existing surroundings. That same technique was used for the upcoming Villains Land, and Imagineers noted they're pleased with how Frontierland and Villains Land will sit together.
Over at Disney's Hollywood Studios, the video shows construction details for Monstropolis, the upcoming Monsters, Inc.-themed land. Disney is "monsterfying" the area with architectural touches like teeth added to window frames. Meanwhile, Animal Kingdom's future land, Pueblo Esperanza, gets a look through its sample yard, where the team is testing colors, textures, and structural elements before full-scale building begins on site.
The video rounds out with a first glimpse of construction on Disney's Lakeshore Lodge, a brand-new hotel being built on property, and an update on the ongoing transformation of Hollywood Studios' Animation Courtyard into The Walt Disney Studios area — part of which is already open, with The Magic of Disney Animation set to open September 14th.
