Disney World has filed a permit with the South Florida Water Management District to expand the North Service Area Marina — the backstage dock on Bay Lake where the resort's watercraft are stored and maintained. The project calls for new floating dock extensions, replacement and relocation of existing pilings, eight additional new pilings, and dredging to a depth of 86.5 feet to clear material from the area.
The timing lines up with several big moves Disney has already announced for its water transportation network. The resort recently revealed it is adding a fourth ferry to the Magic Kingdom fleet: the Meg Gilbert Crofton, named after Disney World's fourth president and the first new Magic Kingdom boat in 50 years. That vessel is currently under construction.
Looking further ahead, the upcoming Lakeshore Lodge hotel — currently being built and slated to open in summer 2027 — will have its own dedicated dock with direct boat service to Magic Kingdom. Factor in the planned Magic Kingdom expansion that will add both Piston Peak and Villains Land, and it's easy to see why Disney would need more room to house and service a growing fleet.
