The exterior refurbishment of Disney's Contemporary Resort has hit a new visual milestone: a crane is now stationed on the north side of the iconic A-Frame building, with its arm extending directly above the fourth-floor observation deck. That deck area is currently blocked off by rolling planters, and the crane itself sits in a service area marked with orange traffic cones, according to photos published by WDWNT on August 26.
The project began in September 2024, starting with Bay Lake Tower before moving to the main Contemporary Tower. Work has been working its way around the building's exterior ever since — scaffolding and beige scrim now cover much of the front facade, and just this month crews added scaffolding and dark green construction walls on the Bay Lake-facing side of the property.
The timeline for finishing the job has shifted considerably. Walt Disney World originally targeted September 2025 as the completion date, then pushed it to July 2026. The resort's official webpage now lists the end of construction as "late 2027," adding more than two years to the original schedule.
Guests with reservations at the Deluxe resort shouldn't expect major interruptions to their stay. Monorail and bus service, pools, dining, and most other amenities are all continuing to operate normally during construction, though some daytime noise and visible work activity is to be expected. planning a Walt Disney World trip around the resort is still very much doable.
