Guests staying at Disney's BoardWalk Inn and Villas have one less construction zone to deal with this week. The Village Green — the large outdoor courtyard nestled between the resort and the BoardWalk promenade — has reopened after Disney replaced its worn artificial grass with a bright new synthetic turf surface. The project wrapped up noticeably ahead of the original September 4 target date, a welcome early finish for anyone visiting over Labor Day weekend.
The Village Green closed on August 10 for the work, which temporarily displaced several guest activities. Movie Under the Stars, outdoor yoga, and crafts sessions were relocated to other spots around the property during that window. With the fresh turf now in place, all of those offerings can return to their usual home on the lawn.
The turf swap is just one piece of a much larger refurbishment still underway at the resort. Disney's ongoing work at BoardWalk Inn and Villas is expected to continue through late 2026. Guests planning a stay in early 2027 should also note that the Luna Park Pool, Luna Park Crazy Play Area, and Leaping Horse Libations are scheduled to close January 11 for routine maintenance lasting through April 2027 — though both the Villas Pool and Inn Pool are expected to stay open during that period.
Bigger changes are unfolding across Walt Disney World as a whole. Disney's Hollywood Studios is taking shape around a new Monsters, Inc.-themed land called Monstropolis, and Magic Kingdom is in the midst of a sweeping transformation that includes the Piston Peak National Park project in Frontierland, a future Disney Villains Land, and ongoing construction that will reshape large sections of the park. Over at Animal Kingdom, the former DinoLand U.S.A. footprint is being redeveloped into Tropical Americas.
