Disney's Animal Kingdom is home to some of Walt Disney World's most unique and hard-to-find character experiences — and knowing where to look makes all the difference. Before heading into the park, the My Disney Experience app is your best starting point: tap the map pin, swipe to the Characters section, and you can see exactly where your favorites will appear and when throughout the day.
Some of the most sought-after greetings are exclusive to Animal Kingdom. In the Oasis, Rafiki and Timon rotate every 30 minutes starting about an hour after park opening, while Pocahontas can be found in a lush natural setting just before the bridge to Discovery Island. On Discovery Island near the Tree of Life, Officers Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde from Zootopia draw some of the biggest crowds in the park, so plan for extra wait time.
For adventurous guests willing to wander, Russell from Up makes surprise appearances along the Discovery Trails — and his visits don't always show up in the app. Kevin and Dug also roam Discovery Island from time to time, with Dug's special voice box making him a particularly memorable encounter. Meanwhile, Conservation Station hosts a play experience with Bluey and Bingo, where kids can dance and join in games like Keepy Uppy and the Octopus Game after riding the Wildlife Express from Harambe Station.
Animal Kingdom is also the only park where Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Daisy, Goofy, and Pluto appear in full safari gear — a detail that makes character photos here genuinely one-of-a-kind. Donald and Daisy greet guests near Garden Gate Gifts in the Oasis, Mickey and Minnie are at Adventurers Outpost near the bridge to Asia, and Goofy and Pluto can be found further into Asia.
