D23 Marks Walt Disney World's 55th With Special October Event

Walt Disney World turns 55 this fall, and D23 is marking the milestone with a dedicated evening event at one of the resort's original Opening Day landmarks — Disney's Contemporary Resort. The D23 Spotlight Series: 55 Magical Years of Storytelling takes place on Sunday, October 4, 2026, starting at 6 p.m. in the Ballroom of the Americas, and also honors what would have been Walt Disney's 125th birthday.

The centerpiece of the evening is a panel featuring Disney Legend Joe Rohde, who spent 40 years with Walt Disney Imagineering. Rohde will reflect on his career and the craft of storytelling. The Walt Disney Archives will then guide attendees through the history of the Carousel of Progress — including newly acquired items added to the Archives during the attraction's ongoing refurbishment — and Imagineers currently working on the ride will share a glimpse of what's ahead for the classic show.

Every attendee receives a limited-release pin featuring the classic Walt Disney World Resort logo. Two ticket tiers are available: Panel-Only at $59 (plus a $3 processing fee) and VIP at $159 (plus a $3 processing fee). VIP holders get early check-in, a dessert reception at the West Rotunda, two character meet-and-greet opportunities, a Disney Springs coupon package, and fireworks viewing from the Contemporary Resort beginning around 9 p.m.

A few practical notes for anyone planning to attend: the event is open to guests 13 and older, and parking is not available on-site at the Contemporary Resort — guests should park at the Transportation and Ticket Center and take the bus or monorail to the venue. D23 Members may purchase tickets for themselves and up to three guests, and all tickets are non-transferable with no refunds. Tickets go on sale Friday, August 28, 2026, at 10 a.m. PT / 1 p.m. ET through the D23 website.
