Walt Disney Imagineering has filed a new construction permit for Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin at Magic Kingdom, though Disney has not disclosed what work is planned or whether it could affect ride operations.

The permit lists the Tomorrowland attraction’s address as 1305 Monorail Way and describes the project only as “General Construction.” It names Icarus Exhibits Inc. as contractor and is set to expire in one year.

Icarus Exhibits previously worked on set elements during the attraction’s recent refurbishment, according to Disney Fanatic. That earlier project closed Space Ranger Spin in August 2025 before the ride reopened April 8, 2026.

The eight-month overhaul brought handheld blasters, targets with hit-responsive lighting effects, updated Star Cruiser vehicles with onboard score displays, an expanded scoring system and a new robot character named Buddy. Disney also refreshed scenes and visual effects while retaining the ride’s mission against Emperor Zurg.

Disney has not announced another closure or a construction start date. The filing does not say whether the newly permitted work would occur while the attraction remains open, and a permit alone does not establish that a shutdown is planned.

For now, Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin remains open to Magic Kingdom guests.
