Universal Orlando’s locker system is straightforward once you separate it into two jobs: free, short-term ride lockers for attractions that do not allow loose articles, and paid daily lockers for belongings you do not want to carry around. The catch is that the complimentary lockers are designed for the ride, not for all-day storage—and their dimensions can be surprisingly slim.
Locker arrangements, availability and rates can change, so check posted pricing and the Universal Orlando Resort app on your visit day. If you are still choosing admission, compare Universal Orlando tickets before locking in a multi-park itinerary.
Free ride lockers at Universal Studios Florida
At Universal Studios Florida, standard ride lockers are complimentary while you ride at Revenge of the Mummy, MEN IN BLACK Alien Attack and Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts. The standard compartment measures about 14 by 5.5 by 16.9 inches, so think phone, wallet, sunglasses, a light rain layer and a small, slim bag—not a stuffed school backpack.
These are timed lockers: the included window is meant to cover the queue and ride. If you linger after riding, expect an additional charge to reopen it. Oversize lockers at these attractions are available for a fee when a standard compartment will not do.
Free ride lockers at Islands of Adventure
Islands of Adventure has the most locker-intensive thrill lineup. Free standard ride lockers are used at The Incredible Hulk Coaster, Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey, Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure and Jurassic World VelociCoaster. Hulk and VelociCoaster are the two rides to plan around most carefully: all loose items must be secured and riders pass through metal detectors before entering the queue.
That means no phone in a pocket, no watch-you-forgot-about situation and no camera tucked into a jacket at those coasters. If you wear a small waist pack, do not assume it can ride with you; Team Members make the final call based on the restraint and the attraction’s rules.
For the wet rides—Jurassic Park River Adventure, Popeye & Bluto’s Bilge-Rat Barges and Dudley Do-Right’s Ripsaw Falls—lockers are optional but paid. Current rates are generally $5 for a smaller locker or $6 for a large locker for 90 minutes, with $3 added per extra half-hour up to the daily maximum. They are worthwhile for electronics, medication or anything you really want to keep dry; a water-resistant phone pouch is also useful insurance on a rain-soaked Islands day.
Free ride lockers at Epic Universe
Epic Universe makes the ride-locker list pleasantly short. Free standard queue lockers are provided for Hiccup’s Wing Gliders, Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment and Stardust Racers. Stardust Racers is the strictest of the three: loose articles are prohibited and guests go through a metal detector.
Planning Your Trip
Undercover Tourist is an authorized seller of Universal Epic Universe tickets, often at a discount off gate price.
Epic’s free compartments are more box-shaped than the original-parks lockers, measuring approximately 11.8 by 11 by 13 inches. They handle a compact day bag better than the narrow lockers at Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure, but they still are not designed for large souvenir bags or full-size backpacks. Other Epic rides may require items to be secured in onboard storage or otherwise handled according to the posted attraction instructions, so read the sign before joining the line.
All-day lockers: sizes, locations and expected cost
Paid daily lockers are the better choice for a sweatshirt, refillable bottle, larger souvenirs, extra clothes or a bag that will not fit in ride lockers. You can reopen them throughout the day, but they stay in that park; they do not transfer between Universal Studios Florida, Islands of Adventure and Epic Universe.
- Universal Studios Florida: Daily lockers are in Production Central just inside the entrance area. Universal offers both large and family-size daily rentals here.
- Islands of Adventure: Find daily lockers just inside the entrance, near the stroller and wheelchair rental area. Plan on a large daily locker rather than a family unit.
- Epic Universe: The primary daily-locker bank is in Celestial Park near the entrance, with additional daily rental locations around the park’s portal areas.
Budget from $15 per day for a large locker and from $20 for a family locker, where offered. A typical large compartment is about 12 by 13 by 16.9 inches; family units are wider. Epic’s daily lockers use different dimensions, with a roughly 11-by-11.75-by-17.7-inch large option and a wider family option. Prices and inventory are subject to change, so confirm the kiosk rate before paying.
The best bag-packing strategy
For a ride-heavy day, bring one compact, soft-sided crossbody or lightly packed mini backpack per person. Put only essentials inside: sunscreen, poncho, cards, a portable battery and one refillable bottle if it fits. Keep bulky purchases for later, use package pickup if available, or place them in an all-day locker rather than gambling on an attraction locker.
If your group has young children, multiple souvenir cups, camera gear or a larger diaper bag, rent a daily locker early and carry only the small essentials into the park. The practical takeaway: pack for the narrowest locker—especially at Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure—and treat every free ride locker as temporary, not as your base camp.
