A Disney World resort pool can be a major part of a Florida vacation—especially after a humid park afternoon—but it is not an amenity that automatically travels with you from hotel to hotel. The practical rule is simple: use the pool at the Disney Resort hotel where you are registered. Disney’s current planning guidance says pool hopping is not generally permitted, even for guests staying at another Disney hotel. In other words, a room at Pop Century does not grant access to the pool at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, Disney’s BoardWalk Inn or Disney’s Art of Animation Resort.
That rule also applies to visitors who are only coming over for a meal, shopping or sightseeing. You can enjoy a resort’s restaurants, lobby and grounds where access is available, but a dining reservation is not a pool pass. When comparing resorts for a pool-focused trip, build the decision around the pool at your own hotel—not the one you hope to visit. If you are still choosing accommodations and park days, compare Disney World ticket options alongside resort plans so your midday break strategy fits the trip.
The limited shared-pool exceptions
There are a handful of connected resort groupings where Disney’s own resort pages specifically describe access to another nearby pool. Think of these as shared amenities within a resort complex, not open-ended permission to try pools across Walt Disney World.
- Disney’s Yacht Club Resort, Disney’s Beach Club Resort and Beach Club Villas: The resorts share the Stormalong Bay area and their listed leisure pools. Disney’s Yacht Club pool page describes leisure pools across the Beach and Yacht Club resorts, including the Beach Club Villas pool for Yacht Club guests.
- Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – French Quarter and Riverside: French Quarter’s official pool page explicitly invites its guests to use the Ol’ Man Island complex at nearby Riverside. Disney planning guidance also identifies the two Port Orleans sections as a shared-access pairing.
- Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge and Disney’s Animal Kingdom Villas – Kidani Village: Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge pool page includes both Uzima Springs at Jambo House and Samawati Springs at Kidani Village, reflecting the linked Lodge/Villas setup.
- Bay Lake Tower and Disney’s Contemporary Resort: Guests at Bay Lake Tower can use the two pools at the adjacent Contemporary Resort. This is not a blanket two-way swap, though: Disney labels Bay Cove Pool at Bay Lake Tower as exclusive to Bay Lake Tower guests and Disney Vacation Club members.
Because pool access can be adjusted for capacity, refurbishments or operational needs, treat the above as planning guidance—not a reason to arrive at a gate expecting an exception. Ask the front desk at check-in if your stay falls within one of these connected resort groupings, and check current details before you go.
How pool-entry checks work
Disney has physical access controls at many resort pools. The familiar setup is a gated pool area that opens only after the guest’s eligible resort credentials are recognized. Disney’s Direct-to-Room information says registered Disney Resort hotel guests can access areas such as their hotel pool before the room is ready by using the Unlock Door feature in the My Disney Experience app or an active MagicBand. Disney also notes that active MagicBands and Key to the World Cards can be used for resort access.
In real-world terms, every swimmer in your party should have their own properly linked access method available—not just one adult carrying a phone. A pool gate may be the first check; at busy feature pools, Cast Members can also verify eligibility or manage capacity. Keep your MagicBand, phone/app access or Key to the World Card with you rather than leaving it in the room.

Do not confuse park admission with resort-pool access. A valid theme-park ticket, Annual Pass or Park Hopper benefit does not itself authorize entry to another hotel’s pool. Likewise, being able to walk into a resort for dinner does not change the pool rule. Resort amenities are tied to the registered stay and, where applicable, the specifically shared complex.
If your own pool is unavailable
If a pool closure affects your stay, the front desk is the right first stop. Disney may direct affected guests to an alternate pool, but that is an operational accommodation rather than a standing pool-hopping privilege. Pool hours and lifeguard availability vary and can change, so check your resort’s recreation page or the My Disney Experience app on the day you plan to swim.
Practical takeaway: Pack swimwear in your day bag, keep each person’s resort access handy, and choose your hotel with its own pool in mind. At Disney World, the best pool plan is usually the one waiting at the resort on your reservation.
