Booking a Walt Disney World vacation package can make a big trip easier to budget for, but it also puts a few important dates on your calendar. The rules below apply to Walt Disney Travel Company packages—generally a Disney Resort hotel stay paired with theme-park tickets—not necessarily to a room-only hotel reservation, separately purchased tickets or reservations booked through a third-party seller.

When comparing prices for a Disney World room-and-ticket package, make sure you are comparing the same kind of booking. Disney says room-only Resort reservations follow a different payment setup: their balance is paid at the hotel, while select vacation packages may be paid down in installments before the trip.

The 2027 deposit and final-payment schedule

For a package booked 31 days or more before arrival, Disney’s 2027 terms require a $200 deposit per reservation. It must be received within three days of booking or the reservation is automatically cancelled. If the package includes Disney’s travel protection plan or a runDisney race registration, those costs are due at booking as well.

The remaining package balance is due no later than 30 days before arrival. Disney describes payments for select packages as customizable: you can choose the timing and size of payments between the deposit and deadline, provided the balance is paid by that 30-day mark. Payments can be made online for a package balance, and Disney’s terms also list payment card, check, money order, bank wire transfer and ACH as accepted methods; follow the instructions on your invoice for non-card payments.

Book a package 30 days or fewer before check-in, and the full package price is due when you book. For any arrival date, use the deadline shown on your confirmation rather than relying on a rough calendar count.

What happens if you change the package?

Disney permits changes only when availability allows, and the pricing in effect when you make the change applies. That means a switch in travel dates, Resort hotel, room type, length of stay, party size or package components can raise the total—even if you originally booked at a lower rate. Disney’s terms say you are responsible for any price increase, and package prices are subject to change until paid in full.

There is another potential cost close to travel: changes made 30 days or fewer before arrival carry a $50 per-package change fee, plus any charges imposed by a third-party hotel or supplier. A modified reservation is also governed by the updated terms and conditions in effect when the change is made. In practical terms, do the math before moving dates: a cheaper room rate elsewhere does not automatically mean the revised package will cost less after repricing and fees.

Names can generally be changed up to one day before arrival as long as the lead Guest remains the same. Packages and their components are nontransferable, so this is not a simple way to hand an entire trip to another family.

Disney World package cancellation and refund windows

  • Cancel 30 days or more before arrival: amounts paid are refunded, less any applicable third-party supplier cancellation fees, nonrefundable runDisney registration costs, nonrefundable travel-protection costs and other amounts owed.
  • Cancel 2 to 29 days before arrival: the same exclusions apply, plus Disney deducts a $200 cancellation fee per package.
  • Cancel one day before arrival or later, or do not show up: the package price is nonrefundable.

Those rules come directly from Disney’s 2027 package terms and conditions. They also state that there are no refunds for an early hotel departure or for unused or partly used admission tickets, meals, options or features. Personalized products and experiences are likewise excluded from refunds.

A few refund details worth knowing

If Disney approves a refund, it is issued to the original form of payment. If a travel advisor collected payment, Disney sends the refund through that advisor rather than directly to the guest. Disney also says discretionary refund requests made after arrival must be submitted in writing within 90 days of departure and may carry a $25 processing fee.

Travel protection is a separate decision, not a replacement for knowing the standard cancellation schedule. Under Disney’s current 2027 package terms, its plan cost can be refunded within 14 days of being added—or 30 days for Utah residents—if no claim has been filed and the trip has not begun.

Practical takeaway: Treat the 30-day-before-arrival date as your major decision point. Save your confirmation, check the exact deadline shown there, and review Disney’s current terms before changing or cancelling—particularly if your package includes a third-party hotel, race entry or travel protection.
