Disney Research has shared a video and technical paper detailing Kamino, simulation software used to help program the walking, talking Olaf animatronic and other robotic figures for Disney Parks.

The software is a GPU-accelerated physics solver designed to simulate complex mechanical systems with kinematic loops, according to the paper. Built on NVIDIA Warp and integrated into the open-source Newton physics framework, Kamino allows Imagineers to develop and test robotic figures digitally.

Disney Research said the platform can simulate multi-limb robots including Olaf, the Iron Man animatronic at Avengers Assemble: Flight Force, and the BDX droids. The company said the tool is particularly useful for large-scale reinforcement learning and applications that require accurate dynamics and GPU-accelerated batch simulation.
