If you're visiting Disney's Hollywood Studios right now, the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror looks a little different than you might remember — and not because of a supernatural storm. The attraction is currently undergoing an extensive facade refurbishment, with scaffolding now wrapping around nearly the entire exterior of the Hollywood Tower Hotel building.
Work began in early May with updates to the ride queue, but the scope has grown significantly since then. By early July, scaffolding had begun climbing the right side of the building and creeping toward the front, including the area around the landmark Hollywood Tower Hotel sign. Patches of brighter pink paint have been spotted on the facade — a sign that fresh coats are being applied before the structure receives its signature intentionally aged, weathered finish.
As of August 20, photos shared on X by the fan site Laughing Place show the attraction more thoroughly covered in scaffolding than at any previous point during the project. All visible sides of the building now have scaffolding in place, though the right-side elevator shaft remains uncovered. Guests riding the left-side elevator shaft may notice some construction equipment visible through the windows during their drop.
The good news for thrill-seekers: the ride itself continues to operate normally throughout the refurbishment. Walt Disney World Resort has not announced any planned closures related to the ongoing work, so guests can still experience the classic freefall experience even while the exterior gets its refresh.
