Space Coast skywatchers have a Saturday night launch to look forward to: SpaceX is targeting August 15 for a Falcon 9 rocket carrying the Globalstar 2-R Launch 1 mission to low-Earth orbit. Liftoff is set to occur from Space Launch Complex 40 (SLC-40) at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, with a 15-minute window opening at 9:12 p.m. ET.
If the Saturday attempt doesn't go as planned, SpaceX has a backup opportunity lined up for Sunday, August 16, with a 15-minute window beginning at 8:54 p.m. ET.
The Falcon 9 first stage booster flying this mission is no stranger to the job — it's heading into its 14th flight. Among its previous assignments: SES O3b mPOWER-E, Crew-10, Bandwagon-3, SES O3b mPOWER-D, CRS-33, and eight Starlink missions. After stage separation, the booster is expected to return to Landing Zone 40 (LZ-40) at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station.
