Two of Florida's beloved Panhandle beach parks are about to become a lot more accessible. The Florida State Parks Foundation has announced that a $100,000 grant from the Surfing's Evolution and Preservation Foundation will fund four new track chairs and a storage trailer to support their use.
Two of those all-terrain motorized wheelchairs are headed to Saint Andrews State Park in Panama City Beach, with the other two going to T. H. Stone Memorial St. Joseph Peninsula State Park in Port St. Joe — giving beachgoers with mobility challenges a way to navigate the sand and surf at both locations.
Track chairs are rugged, motorized wheelchairs designed to roll over uneven terrain like sand and packed shoreline, making beach access possible for visitors who might otherwise be unable to reach the water's edge.
